My name is Michelle, but I’m usually referred to as Marmie, Chelle
, or Worm. I live in a small New Jersey suburb, about twenty minutes from New York
City, but I haven’t been a suburbanite all my life. I grew up in the Philippines
and Queens, and those parts of my childhood have given me a sense of social
responsibility when it comes to living life. I’m surrounded by my family, and am
one of 29 first cousins on my father’s side alone. I found solace in books as a
young child, and they are still my best friends.
1982 - conceived
1983 - born May 23 in my grandparents' home
1984 - first asthma attack
1985 - almost won first place at a baby pageant, but disqualified due to being overweight
1986 - baby fat soon becoming a lifetime condition
1987 - became a mermaid
1988 - thought my mom was a goddess
1989 - reigning beauty pageant queen
1990 - learned to be a people pleaser
1991 - migrated to America, disappointed that new york streets were not paved in gold
1992 - little brother born
1993 - little brother became a rival for attention
1994 - cousins became my sisters
1995 - marked the beginning of the awkward adolescence
1996 - constantly dancing on stage
1997 - skipped piano lessons and pocketed the money
1998 - realized i was an oddball
1999 - migrated to New Jersey suburbia and met my best friend for life
2000 - poster girl for teen angst/rage/drama
2001 - started to feel comfortable in my own skin
2002 - fell in love for the first, and so far, last time
2003 - got lost, then found some directions
2004 - met my other best friend for life
2005 - lived a summer that changed my life
2006 - doing my best trying not to get lost again
